2012
I have been absorbed for some time now on the nature of rhythms, both man made and natural. These rhythms have become patterns that began with a series based on footprints, linking tracks through bushland and more formal walkways and footpaths within the urban environment.
The current series places greater emphasis on the rhythms and patterns of music, and creates metaphors pertaining to weather, fields and meadows, strongly reminiscent from my native Scotland. These rhythms create loose structures of movement, and with the aid of colours set up vertical and horizontal forces flowing through the pictorial field.
The introduction of what could be referred to as sound wave particles, in turn determine spacial structures through the nature and velocity of their movements I have attempted to introduce signs and schemata in place of the object itself. This method has introduced a whole new range of expressive possibilities to my work.
