2010
Drawing/mark-making transfers strength and vitality, a force or vigor of expression. Surfaces are layered, scraped in order to build texture and character. Colour is the  indispensable quality that extends in particular a spiritual entity, reflecting grace and charm. All elements are constantly adjusted until a balance is struck between definition and mystery, a poetic presence achieved. There is always a strong conviction to abstraction in my work and abstract concepts that develop during the making of the painting.
The use of ‘bars’ in the work could refer to aspects of design, interpretation of a band of color or light, bars of sunlight shafting through fields, railings, barriers or restrictions, cobblestones
